Gian-Luca Bona, a valued member of Spur Insights’s executive advisory board, brings a wealth of experience and insight to help shape our strategy. As a Professor emeritus of ETH Zürich and EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) and an individual member of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW), he offers invaluable guidance to Spur Insights, drawing from his extensive professional experience in both academia and industry.
Gian-Luca currently serves on the boards of several companies, such as, Bobst Group SA, Integra Metering AG, and Integra Holding AG. His international commitments include a seat on the Board of Trustees of the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin, Germany.
His impressive career includes serving at IBM as the Department Head of the Science & Technology Division at the Almaden Research Center and later as the Director of Tape Storage Solutions in the Server and Technology Group, where he managed global teams and advanced materials science and semiconductor technologies. In 2009 he joined Empa, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology, as Director until May 2022. During this time, he represented the ETH Domain research institutes in the ETH Domain board and was instrumental in the transfer of knowledge and technology from science to industry – a commitment that aligns perfectly with Spur’s mission to drive innovation in the manufacturing industry with the help of AI.
His extensive network and deep understanding of the Swiss innovation landscape make him a key asset in connecting Spur Insights with potential collaborators and partners, fostering groundbreaking advancements in the field.
